Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir – March 28, 2025:
In a gallant but tragic operation, Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district security forces neutralized three heavily armed terrorists in a fierce gun battle that left three gallant policemen dead. The gunfight, which occurred late on Thursday night, highlights the persisting security challenges in the region and the determination of the forces to ensure peace and stability.
Operation Unfolds in Kathua
Official reports state that intelligence agencies had received reliable inputs regarding the presence of terrorists taking shelter in a residential locality close to the Kathua border. Acting on the tip-off, a combined team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army, and paramilitary forces conducted a coordinated search operation to drive out the militants.
As the security team neared the suspected hideout, the terrorists fired intense machine guns, causing an intense exchange of fire. The heavily armed terrorists were highly prepared, employing sophisticated explosives and firearms to fend off the approaching forces. The operation immediately escalated into an intense firefight that lasted several hours.
Three Policemen Martyred in the Line of Duty
Three policemen received serious injuries in the heavy operation while attempting to neutralize the terrorists. Though they were rushed to a nearby military hospital, they died from their injuries. The martyred heroes have been named as Sub-Inspector Ramesh Kumar, Constable Tariq Ahmed, and Constable Vikram Singh. Their martyrdom in the line of duty demonstrates the high degree of courage and commitment shown by the security forces in the area.
Top police officers paid respects to the martyred policemen, with Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DGP) sending his deepest sympathies to the families of the victims. “Their sacrifice will not be in vain. The operation was key to averting a big terror attack and the security forces displayed impeccable bravery,” the DGP said.
Militants Neutralized and Weapons Seized
After hours of heavy gunfire, the security troops were able to pin down the terrorists, and all three of them were neutralized. They also recovered a stash of arms and ammunition on the scene, including assault weapons, grenades, and other explosive devices, revealing that the militants were well-trained and most likely preparing for an extensive attack.
Initial investigations indicate that the terrorists were connected with a Pakistan-based militant organization, trying to penetrate and destabilize the area. Security agencies are now trying to track the network that helped them enter and supply logistical support.
High Alert and Security Measures Enhanced
Following the encounter, security has been tightened in the Kathua district and its surrounding areas. More forces have been stationed at strategic installations and checkpoints to avoid any retaliatory attacks or attempts at infiltration. Locals have been asked to stay alert and inform the authorities about any suspicious movement.
Nation Pays Tribute
The news of the encounter has evoked an outpour of grief and admiration throughout the country. Political figures, including the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, have conveyed their condolences and hailed the courage of the security personnel. “We pay our respects to the bravery of our forces who gave their lives for the protection of the country. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” the Prime Minister said.
As the country grieves the deaths of its gallant heroes, the success of the operation stands as a reminder of the ever-present danger from terrorism and India’s security forces’ ability to persevere despite such challenges. The operation has been described as a major victory over terrorism, solidifying the country’s commitment to fighting against extremist forces with unyielding determination
